Labeling handcrafted soap and cosmetic products involves more than just listing ingredients—it requires compliance with a complex set of federal regulations. With over 15 years of focused research and experience in cosmetic and soap labeling laws, I offer a professional label review service tailored specifically for small-batch and handcrafted product makers.
I provide a thorough, regulation-based review of your product label to help you identify potential compliance issues before they become problems. Each review is conducted with careful attention to detail, referencing current regulations and guidance documents.
Whether you are preparing to launch a new product or want to confirm that your current labels meet the required standards, this service offers an efficient, reliable, and affordable solution.
WHAT A BASIC LABEL REVIEW INCLUDES:
The content of the label(s) for one soap or cosmetic product.
If there are separate front and back labels, the review covers the content of both.
If there is both an outer container (a box, for example) and an inner container (a jar or bottle), the review covers the content of both.
Checking the completeness, placement, and size of each component on the label:
Product name and identity
Statement of net contents
Business name and address
Adverse event report contact
Ingredient declaration
Directions and material facts
Required warnings (if any)
Claims and statements made
A written report, delivered by email within 5 - 8 business days.
An optional Zoom call to go over the results is available.
A quick review of the revised label after any changes are made as a result of the label review.
OPTIONAL ADD-ONS:
The following services are not included as part of a Basic Label Review, but are available as add-ons.
Ingredient Declaration Order
Verification of the order of ingredients in the ingredient declaration against the actual formulation. ($100)
Fragrance Allergens
Calculation of the level of fragrance allergens or components in the essential olils in the product. The level determines whether the fragrance allergen must be reported to the State of California or included on the label (for EU products now, and probably for US products in the future) . ($150)
IFRA Standards Compliance
Calculating the IFRA maximum usage rates for essential oils used in the product and verifying compliance with IFRA standards. ($125)
NOT INCLUDED
A label review does not include the review of material that goes with the product (defined as "labeling"), such as brochures, website copy, product descriptions, or other marketing materials.
Review of that type of content can be arranged separately at an hourly rate.
